A not-for-profit parish and attached school.

Challenge
Implement a standardized approach to IT management whilst providing a cost effective solution to repair inoperable PC’s.

Solution
Install security measures to protect students from questionable content and ensure security of sensitive data. Develop a highly organized and secure network infrastructure to lower repair costs. Install wireless coverage to support laptops. Provide 24-hour system support.

Benefits
Ensure reliability of data to support efficient operation of school and parish. Promote efficient and reliable teaching. Streamline operational processes. Reduce maintenance costs.

“In the year since the system has been in place, we have not had to re-format a computer due to problems, The systems are centrally managed and support requests can be handled in hours instead
of days.”
- Parish Managing Director
Parish and School Learns Powerful Lessons in Computer Security and Lowers Maintenance Costs.

This Connecticut Parish and private school is well known for its reputation of providing educational excellence to its parishioners. In the spirit of continuing that trend of excellence, the school and parish officials wished to audit the IT environment in hopes of uncovering possible security risks while standardizing operations to make it more efficient for learning.

Many of the computers in the environment were late model units capable of servicing current demand, yet there was no was centralized approach to managing the machines. This meant that each machine needed to be serviced from directly in-front of the machine, spiking support costs and causing long delays in service response. Faculty were often frustrated by the lack of consistency in the environment making it difficult to adapt the specific issues each classroom faced. Because the technology was not always reliable, faculty often relied on other methods to conduct their lessons often turning to more traditional methods.

An Audit Provides Distressing Information
The Parish requested that IT Technology evaluate their system and provide industry comparisons to enable decision makers to formulate appropriate action. During this evaluation, IT Technology conducted an audit of the total system providing an inventory of technology and recommendations for replacement and repair. IT Technology also provided a full security analysis of the environment pointing out internal and external weaknesses and primary areas of concern for their industry.

Management Authorizes IT Technology to Act To Protect Information and Student Body
Officials authorized IT Technology’s proposal to create a centralized approach to IT Management. At the heart of the new model was a highly organized and secure network infrastructure allowing the environment to be centrally managed. Machines that were not salvageable were donated due to their higher long term support costs. New computers were purchased using non-profit discounts and strategically placed in a manner than ensured standardization and lower long term costs.

A New Proactive Solution that is Secure, Cost Effective,
and Flexible.

As the Parish and school approaches year two, they have a stable infrastructure with a newly deployed environment and no longer have to concentrate on repairs to existing equipment. The Parish can now concentrate on ways to leverage their technology more effectively and focus on new projects.

Teachers are able to plan with confidence and are using their PC’s, not only for administrative tasks, but also in lessons with student participation.

In short, a new relationship was forged between the student and the PC. They are now partners in learning. IT Technology is proud to be a part of that partnership, too.
