IT Technology Looks Behind a Law Firm’s PC’s to Prevent Potential Liabilities

This thriving Connecticut law firm has grown substantially over the past 20 years of its existence. But although they made a substantial investment in PC’s for their professionals, the organization was still affected by numerous computer glitches and crashes. As a result, professional productivity and client support was suffering.

IT Technology Audit Uncovers Compromised Security
IT Technology suggested that a comprehensive audit to uncover the reasons for excessive downtime and network latency. As part of the audit, IT Technology evaluated the physical environment and identified several issues causing network inefficiencies and instabilities: 1) Servers were not properly connected to building power and building sprinkler systems put network equipment in jeopardy of getting wet during a fire or false alarm, 2) When system software was examined, IT Technology discovered a variety of expired applications running side by side with newer versions, causing network and server performance issues, 3) In addition, there was poor distribution of resources on the servers causing application instability and performance problems, 4) Poor cable management strategies prevented easy access to system hardware in an emergency. All of these findings threatened the stability of the network as a whole.

A Phased Approach Provides System Security and Increases Productivity and Develops a Strategic Roadmap for the Future.
IT Technology worked with budgetary goals set forth by the law firm and suggested a phased approach to stagger costs and minimize downtime. This included 1) Cleaning up and relocating the server to provide security and accessibility to mission critical hardware, 2) Installing a commercial grade firewall & VPN devices, 3) Conducting a full audit and cleanup of server software 4) Replacing and re-allocating servers so they would be properly configured for maximum efficiency. 5) Implementing a proactive support plan to reduce “reactive” support costs.

Streamlined Efficiency and Network Security
This busy law firm is certain that IT Technology’s comprehensive audit prevented costly downtime and increased productivity and they are now in a position to implement additional phases of the recommendation.
